Regarding Autopinger Support
Posted by vinson at 5:44 pm
I believe quite a number of members had emailed me regarding some issues of their blogs. If you have encountered problems 1) deleting your blog, 2) seeing ping history but no item count or 3) can't ping with quick ping button, please email me and I will help you over the email. As this is a free service, hence allow us some time to respond to you. Please make sure you whitelist my email as it would end up in the spam folder otherwise and I will not be able to get your email. As a side note, we'll not entertain any email written in a rude way.
We'll not be using the item count as a gauge anymore in version 2 as it's not a consistent measure, especially with blogger.com blogs. Version 2 will feature a big release in terms of upgrade to existing Autopinger system. Till then, please kindly email me for Autopinger support.

Results of ping survey done by Mark Sweeting
Posted by vinson at 4:26 pm
Check out this ping survey result done my Mark Sweeting some 3 months back. This survey is about measuring the reliability of ping services such pingomatic, blogflux and Autopinger. After 3 months of testing, Autopinger came up to be most reliable ping services of the 3 but some slow response though. We are glad that Mark had taken some steps in testing out our reliability and we will be working with Mark from BritBlog very soon to benefit more bloggers out there!
Ping on, guys!

Some downtime today
Posted by vinson at 1:39 pm
We apologize for some downtime today caused by our database log file grown oversized! This was quickly resolved by our tech support and our site is back in operation. The pings are not affected during this downtime as it works independently on its own, so rest assured that your pings are being delivered!
Ping on everyone!

Ping server survey by Mark Sweeting
Posted by vinson at 5:33 am
I have seen an interesting ping survey by Mark Sweeting to compare the XML-RPC response time from selected ping relay services and Autopinger is proud to be on his test list, along with Ping-O-Matic and BlogFlux.
You can read more on his blog here.

How autopinger started
Posted by vinson at 9:55 pm
Autopinger started as a personal curiosity of mine to see if all the server responses from pingomatic and pingoat are indeed valid. I took them as benchmarks as they are the more popular services around. I came to realise that not all the pings actually went through successfully after trying out all services individually with my own code. I started to doubt the services because successful pings are displayed when the endpoint of the service is no longer be found. From then on, I decided to make my own pinging service.
I started by grabbing the all-inclusive ping list from the internet to test out each service and note if the endpoint is still in service. Then I went on the analyse each endpoint with fiddler, a HTTP debugging tool to see the actual response through and back from the server and to my surprise, some of these services are not returning good formatted xml response but the ping does go through. Hence I thought it would be a good idea to consolidate all these into one common ping service location, where we will remotely check your updates and ping for you. Though this is not new and is the Feedburner pingshot idea but I guess it would nice if I can provide such a service as well as keep track of the reliability of these endpoints which is now known as ping health. As I developed, I realised there are other advantages in doing so.
Hence I put forward to offer this as a free service for everyone and hope that you like it :-)
