The items of my blog is zero or my blog is not pinged
Posted by vinson at 12:29 pm
If you do come across this when you check your blog ping history, this is caused by autopinger being unable to read your rss/atom feed. Why? Some of the blog template default your rss feed as a relative path like "/rss/feed" instead of "http://yourblog.com/rss/feed/". This is important as autopinger needs to read your rss feed in order to determine if you have updated your blog.
Therefore, when you add a new blog to autopinger, you can select to enter your full path of the rss/atom feed to ensure autopinger is able to access it. Hope this helps :-)

Quick Ping and Quick Pod now in members area
Posted by vinson at 12:06 pm
Attention all existing Quick Ping and Quick Pod users, as I mentioned a few days ago, we have been receiving some spam from unknown "Quick Pingers" and we have decided to move the these features into the member's area. No doubt this will cause you some inconvenience but we are trying our best not to help spammers hitting hard on the search engines and aggregators so that we can be a reliable ping provider.
Now, all you have to do is sign up for a free account and regenerate your buttons again from the member's area. This will help us better monitor how the pings are served. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Quick Ping and Quick Pod to be moved to members area
Posted by vinson at 3:06 am
We have detected that some Quick Ping users are spamming away with the pings! This is unhealthy as your blog as well as autopinger will be marked as a spam site to search engines and aggreators, and this is going to hurt your traffic in the long run.
Therefore, we have decided to move the Quick Ping and Quick Pod functionalities into the member's area where we can better monitor how pings are served. This is by no means to cause inconvenience to our users but to safeguard the broadcasting of your blogs in return for more traffic. So, we need to be a reliable ping provider :-)
We will be making the changes in 2-3 days and all existing Quick Ping and Quick Pod buttons will continue to work until we make the changes. Check our blog again for more details.

Common errors
Posted by vinson at 6:24 pm
Error: This site is not valid or the server is down. Please try another blog url.
Reason: The URL that you have entered points to an invalid URL or the site is down.
Error: Your blog has no title or it's stated as ""Untitled Page"". Autopinger suggests that you put a blog title and this would help others to find your blog easily :-)
Reason: Your blog pages may have a title tag as "Untitled Page" and this is not recommended or your blog is missing the <title>Your blog title</title> tag.
Error: Autopinger cannot find your rss/atom feed.
Reason: Your blog does not have rss declaration like <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Official Autopinger Blog" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/autopinger" />

We have once again expand our ping list. This time we have added 4 more services namely MapLop, J-Ranking, Pingoo and Adoppt. You can see more on our "Ping Blog" page. Members, please login to add these news ones to your selected blog ping services.
We are constantly looking for more ways to broadcast your blogs and podcasts, so stay tuned. We would love to improve our ping list if users can provide us with more possibilities from other countries as we are not familiar with the language or may not have discovered the services there. So please do help us on that :-)

Autopinger suffered a little hiccup earlier on
Posted by vinson at 1:47 pm
Some of you may have noticed that you had landed on an error page while visiting Autopinger.com earlier on. This is because our host seems to have a little issue with the database. Therefore, it caused some downtime like 10min. I had already clarified with the techs that the issue is fixed.
I had also double checked that our systems are running fine before I post this blog. So no more worries now!

Services under consideration for removal
Posted by vinson at 3:45 pm
Please note that Blog360 is currently having its maintenance. That explains its drop in ping health percentage.
While other services like Rubhub,CoreBlog and ExBlog.jp are constantly hit by errors like 403(Forbidden) or page is no longer found. We will monitor them a little more. Once they drop below 10%, we will get them out of our ping list. So, please kindly check back for more updates.

Posted by vinson at 10:54 pm
Great news! I have updated the code base for the quick ping button now and all existing quick ping users don't panic, there is no need for you to change anything with your existing button. They all will work fine.
This change of code was to include any new ping services in future, so you don't have to regenerate your quick ping button or change anything with the button.
Once again, thanks for your support for using quick ping buttons :-)

3 New blog ping services added
Posted by vinson at 4:47 pm
With wonderful feedback from members, I have tested and gladly added 3 new services to autopinger's ping list.
You will notice these new services in the homepage as well as the member's set blog ping services page.
These services are gnoos(Australian blog search engine), Blog360(Japanese Search Engine) and BlogBlogs(Brazil blog directory-require registration).
Members, please take note that these new services will not be in your ping list. If you want to add these services to your ping list, please login and go to "set blog services". Then select these new services and click "Save". Only then will autopinger ping these new services for you.
For quick ping button users, hold on to your button first while I m changing some code base to make your button self updating and ping all latest services. The updates will be done in a few days, check back this blog regularly for more info!

Some changes on Autopinger site
Posted by vinson at 6:48 am
You may have noticed some changes if visit the recent blogs page and the recent podcasts page where under the owner column, we have changed the code to show more accuracy on who is pinging.
"[Username]" are our registered users who use our Auto-Pinging mechanism. (I would recommend you to try this!)
"Manual" refers to users pinging their blog/podcast via the Ping Blog or Ping Podcast page.
"QuickPing" are users who use our Quick Ping Button on their blogs.
"QuickPod" are users who use our Quick Pod Button on their blog/site.
"RPC" are users who use our XML-RPC interface in their blogging software.
Nevertheless, autopinger's aim is to make blog and podcast pinging a lot easier than before and there are various ways you can broadcast your blog/podcast updates via the abovementioned method. So, have fun everyone :-)

Autopinger introduces Quick Pod Button
Posted by vinson at 6:27 am
Just a quick recap, podcasting has been around for a while and it's gaining momentum slowly over the internet as more people realise it's commercial value to introduce their products and events using podcast. Though this is encouraging, but often a novice might find podcasting a little more difficult to get started with. Well, it's all about saving your own voice/video clips, put them into a XML format with your media files information and share them with everyone. This gives rise to another search engine flavour that targets on podcasts together with many podcast directories. Once again, you need to inform the world that you have a new/updated podcast. In short, come listen to my podcast!
As an initiative to making podcast pinging easier, I introduce "Quick Pod Button" which I derived some thoughts from our most popular tool ( the Quick Ping Button). The Quick Ping Button has shown good acceptance amongst blogger.com users as well as other blog providers according to my stats :-) This is pretty encouraging as it shows our users like this One-Click-Ping-All method of handling blog pings. Therefore, I had given it another shot to provide "Quick Pod Button" to your blog/site to add more convenience for podcasters who manage many podcasts.
You will notice a "Quick Pod Button" on the ping podcast page and this will lead you to the configuration page where you can set 1 to 5 podcasts at one time and we will generate the code for the "Quick Pod Button". So, once you have done that, paste the code into your blog/site and you have a One-Click-Ping-All button to ping your pre-configured 1 to 5 podcasts. Go try it here!
