Why autopinger?
Any blogger would agree that managing many blogs could be a heavy-duty task. Since most popular blogging software like typepad and wordpress offer pinging mechanism in the software, bloggers would have to
set a list of services to ping through XML-RPC interface whenever he/she updates the blog, this is a proactive approach to ping.
Autopinger has a XML-RPC interface too, learn more ...
Most of us would get an all-inclusive list and dump it in to get our blogs broadcasted to search engines and directories but often we don't keep
track if any of these services is down. Therefore it would be nice to have a central location that does all the pinging work and this idea leads to autopinger, that does not too surprisingly, auto-pinging! This is a passive approach but seems to be good one :-)
Auto-pinging refers to the action of checking your blogs and podcast feeds at regular time interval and ping your updates to your selected to-ping services. This way you will have more control on the pinging process and it keeps you away from some headaches like:
1) Blogging software will ping immediately when you press that "Submit Post" button, hence there is some waiting time if your ping list is long and you can't do anything about it. Autopinger will not affect your blog posting time as the pinging is done at our server.
2) If you do own more than 10 blogs, you could find it frustrating to update your ping list every time there is a new service to ping. Autopinger makes it easy for you to change just once at one place as we are constantly informed of new services to ping.
